"RAINBOW EMBASSY” INSTALLATION BY OKUDA SAN MIGUEL IN FORT SMITH
Public Art
Client: THE UNEXPECTED
Location: Downtown Fort Smith, Northwest Arkansas
Artists: Okuda San Miguel
Service: Concept, Curation, Development and Production
The Rainbow Embassy is Okuda San Miguel’s newest public art intervention in collaboration with global art curator JUSTKIDS for the Unexpected art event, now permanently on view for all to enjoy within the residential heart of Downtown Fort Smith .
Appointed by 64.6 Downtown for its fifth year in a row to enrich the cityscape and community of the town, Justkids invited famed multidisciplinary artist OKUDA to join the Unexpected project for the second time and give new life to a previously neglected architectonic structure sitting adjacent to the Darby Junior High School at the intersection of North 14th Street and North G street, providing a new space for wonder, vibrancy and play to its young neighbors and tight knit community.
“I loved coming back to Fort Smith. It's a very peaceful place to create, it was the perfect balance after having worked in Manhattan and just before heading into the madness of Miami Art Week. I'm incredibly excited and grateful to Justkids and The Unexpected for the opportunity to come back and complete The Rainbow Embassy, this project gave me the possibility to expand on my previous work, adding more architectonic dimension and completing my vision of mythical animals.”
- Okuda San Miguel
“Rainbow Embassy installation is a beautiful space of freedom and exchange, signifying the boundless and unifying power of art. Okuda’s high spirited and immersive works are a true gift of joy to the community, nothing short of a dream come true.”
