Justkids was commissioned by Amaya, East Boston’s newest luxury residential development in the Suffolk Downs neighborhood, to produce a mural by Julien Colombier—marking the French artist’s first in the United States. The 2,700-square-foot mural is entirely hand-painted, drawing inspiration from the local New England flora and featuring Wild Indigo, Blue Lobelia, and Coral Honeysuckle. Located at a prominent corner of the property, it serves as a welcoming landmark for tenants and passersby alike. Titled ‘It’s Like a Jungle Sometimes’, the piece captures the vibrancy and natural beauty of the surrounding area.

To create this expansive mural, the artist utilized a combination of freestyle hand-painting and layering techniques, allowing a dynamic and spontaneous interplay of colors and forms that enhances the overall composition; a characteristic of the Julien Colombier’s signature style.

I’m not a naturalist painter; I don’t have a deep understanding of real plants. I just get inspired by their movements and the way they mix together. My work focuses more on capturing the rhythm and interplay of shapes and layers, which can sometimes approach abstraction.
