Interview Highlights:

“We truly believe that two heads always think better than one and art is something that can only improve if it’s built together. Our solo process is also integral because this definitely informs what we bring to the table when we work together. ”

When we got together in 2006, we were a bunch of college friends trying to figure out how to do the work we love and breakthrough the art world without going through the formal institutionalized avenues. We had this inside joke about our approach, explaining it like a bike without brakes, like we just go and never stop. At that time we were looking for funny and unusual names, so we started using this inside joke as our collective name. Over time the name was gaining strength and people were enjoying it. To be honest, the name and initial approach doesn’t really represent us these days , but in a greater sense, we keep it since it still captures is the essence of our work which is friends creating together and having fun. “

Interview Highlights:

“Place-making in this practice can be quite broad, but to me its about truly seizing the unique or unexpected aspects that make a community and enhancing them. Even though many things in art are universal, good placemaking doesn’t look the same everywhere, its always changing so it’s very important to be mindful of the context and sensibilities of the places we intervene.”

- Charlotte Dutoit in conversation with No Cure Magazine

“Being a curator for public spaces is all about finding ways to bring forward art in different, non conventional forms”
