Raquel Rodrigo Arquicostura

Raquel Rodrigo is a Spanish artist based in Valencia, known for transforming traditional cross-stitch technique into large-scale installations. Through her project Arquicostura, she brings embroidery into architecture and contemporary spaces, creating distinctive works that brings together textile art, craft, design, and the built environment.

Working with colorful thread hand-stitched onto metal mesh, Raquel Rodrigo translates the intimate language of needlework to an architectural scale. Her highly versatile practice extends from monumental façades and public art installations to hospitality spaces, interiors, and retail environments. With an expansive visual vocabulary ranging from botanical and floral compositions to custom patterns and site-specific designs, her technique offers virtually limitless possibilities, allowing each work to respond to the identity, architecture, and scale of its setting.

Her practice also gives new visibility to embroidery as a traditionally feminine craft, connecting contemporary art with techniques and knowledge passed between generations. The contrast between the delicacy of the medium and the scale of its surroundings has become a defining element of her work.

Trained in Fine Arts in Valencia before pursuing studies in spatial and interior design, Rodrigo began developing her signature approach with her first embroidered façade in Madrid in 2011. Since then, her work has expanded internationally through public art commissions, site-specific installations, and collaborations across Europe, the United States, and beyond.
